How are Turnkey Projects different from Design and Execution Projects?

Whenever there is a need for redesigning or renovating commercial space professionals are usually hired for the work so everything can be taken care of without any hassle. Such projects can however be undertaken in two formats, Turnkey and Design and Execution. Here’s more on the basic differences between the two.

Turnkey projects:

Turnkey projects can also be termed as end-to-end Interior design projects wherein a commercial interior design firm is hired and the complete responsibility of finishing the work within a specific timeline and budget is given over. This kind of arrangement has several advantages which have been listed below:

1: Fixed costs: When a commercial designing firm takes up a turnkey project, they first agree upon a budget and then stick to that. As a result, the individual or company outsourcing the project does not have to worry about escalating costs due to delays or re-works. The agency takes complete responsibility and they are the ones who have to deal with issues to prevent delays and re-works from decreasing their profit margins.

2: One-stop solution: Once a commercial designing firm takes up a project, they take care of everything, right from installation of the required gadgets to taking care of the MEP solutions. As such, after getting a commercial designing firm on board, the client does not have to run around looking for the best solutions for lighting or furniture.

3: No wastage of time and resources: Since the commercial firms work on a model wherein, they have to hand over the complete project within a fixed timeline, they start only after getting pre-approvals of the required drawings, designs, choice of gadgets etc. This cut down on the time required for taking approvals and thus helps fast-track the project.

Design and Execution Projects:

In this format, the project is given to a designer who then ropes in professionals to work on various aspects like MEP solutions, woodwork, flooring etc. In this format, the designer has to get approvals from the client for everything, right from the design of the furniture to the MEP work as nothing really is pre-decided. In this format, the client indeed gets a lot of flexibility, but the process does not get as hassle-free as it does on hiring a commercial interior design firm and the end-to-end designing project being outsourced.
